Porty Food Map: The Traders’ Stories

Town Hall and Traders

Harry’s Treats, just one of the stories and recipes featured – it’s not all about humans

Bringing the Town Hall back into action for the community will take a wide range of support.  We’re gaining momentum with volunteers but funds are also important.  Buying Porty Food Map is one way of supporting the fundraising campaign and also having a beautiful and useful book at the same time.

Following an idea from Jo Turbitt, Portobello local and founder of Instagram account The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch we published a “food map” for Porty. It reveals why people run their businesses, where they are and what they do, and each offers their favourite recipe. A celebration of over twenty traders, food shops and restaurants on and around Portobello High Street, the recipes and stories are a snapshot of the variety of food shops and eateries available locally at the beginning of 2022.  It’s also a ‘thank you’ to the individuals that have kept us fed, watered, and supported over the years and most importantly over the last two years.

Hear all about it with Jo and Jen Elliot on the Porty Podcast.

Every penny will go towards bringing the Town Hall alive.

It has been produced in collaboration with Jo Turbitt, with photographs by Jon Davey and illustrations by Barbara Hilliam.
