PORTOBELLO CENTRAL SCIO

VENUE MANAGER

25 HOURS PER WEEK (5 HOURS PER DAY)

SALARY: £26,390 PER ANNUM FTE (PRO-RATA)

HOURLY RATE: £14.50

Portobello Central is seeking to appoint a Venue Manager to open Portobello Town Hall under community management and to make the venue thrive.

Portobello Town Hall is to reopen from mid-2023 as a key venue for a wide range of events.  Owned by City of Edinburgh Council and leased to and managed by Portobello Central SCIO, we are reopening after a period of four years of closure.  During this period of closure significant levels of support have been galvanised within the community.  This has led to a great deal of potential interest.  From a standing start, we need to create a wide appreciation of the Town Hall as a flexible and easy to book venue – the perfect place for many kinds of events. We are seeking a well-organised person with good administration and customer relationship experience.

The post is expected to start end of June 2023 and will run for a year (12-month contract) in the first instance.

Closing date for applications – midday Tuesday 9 May 2023.

Interviews will be held on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May 2023.

What you have asked?

We had described the job as 0.6 FTE at 25 hours per week but on a working week of 35 hours, 25 hours per week is 0.7 FTE. Our wording and documents on our website and on Goodmoves here have been corrected but if you downloaded the documents in the first 48 hours you might want to check you have the version stating 0.7 FTE.

We’ve also had a few questions sent in and we’ll be updating any others here.

Question 1:

Can the 25 hours a week be worked flexibly or will they be at certain times / days- and if so what would they be?

Our Response:

We anticipate that the hours will be worked flexibly over Monday to Friday, with at least the majority of that being within the 9am – 5pm timeslot. However, given that we are at the very beginning of opening and running the building we anticipate that there will be some evening and / or weekend working on occasion. Flexible working or TOIL will be agreed for those on an individual occurrence basis.

Question 2:

Will the work be done remotely, hybrid or full time on site.

Our Response:

As we get up and running there will definitely be a need for the majority of the work to be done on site and we expect that to continue to be the case. However, there will be some flexibility with that as we understand the nature and patterns of business.

Question 3:

Would we entertain a ‘joint’ application from who people who would share the role?  My friend and I have experience of running and operating venues and we did so together.

Our Response:

Yes, we would definitely be interested in receiving applications from people who wish to job share and have their own job share partner. We have made provision for that within the application form.   Please complete an application form each and cross reference them. We appreciate that much of the narrative will be focussed on your experiences working together.
